A principios de los 80, Pretenders se anunció al mundo con la publicación de lo que sería considerado uno de los mejores álbumes de debut de todos los tiempos. Ahora, coincidiendo con el 40 aniversario de Pretendes II, se reeditan los dos primeros álbumes en dos nuevas ediciones de lujo de 3CD, supervisados por la mismísima Chrissie Hynde. Pretenders y Pretenders II se presentan en unas cuidadas cajas 12x12 de 3CD, que incluye además un extenso libreto con nuevas notas del aclamado periodista Will Hodgkinson. También incluyen gran cantidad de fotos raras e inéditas de la banda.
Pretenders (Deluxe Edition) contiene el álbum original remasterizado por Chris Thomas, junto con demos, rarezas y abundantes actuaciones en directo. Incluyendo sesiones de la BBC en The Kid Jensen Show y actuaciones en The Paris Theatre, Londres y Paradise Theatre en Boston.
El primer single de Pretenders llegó casi un año antes del lanzamiento del álbum, con su sencillo debut que entró directo en el top 40, una versión de Stop Your Sobbing de The Kinks producida por Nick Lowe. Luego vino Kid, otro éxito que entró en top 40 de Reino Unido y su primer single escrito por ellos. Después de ambos singles vendría uno de los temas más importantes de Pretenders hasta el día de hoy, Brass In Pocket. Liderando con un glorioso ritmo de guitarra encarnado por un delicioso coro, Brass In Pocket lanzó a Pretenders a un nivel superior, alcanzando el número 1 en Reino Unido, Irlanda, Suecia y Sudáfrica, además de entrar en el top 5 de Australia, Bélgica y Canadá, Francia, Nueva Zelanda entre otros.
